Visit Southeast Asia Center is a strategic research hub within the network, given the richness, diversity and complexity of the region's social, environmental and territorial dynamics. The work carried out is part of an interdisciplinary approach, combining modeling, field analysis and close collaboration with local players.
Structuring research areas
The Centre's research is organized around several major themes:
Modeling socio-ecosystems
Analysis of interactions between human societies and natural environments, particularly in rural, forest and coastal contexts subject to strong anthropic pressures.Territorial and urban dynamics
Study the rapid transformation of territories, urbanization, mobility and spatial recomposition at different scales.Natural resource management and environmental change
Modeling and simulation of water, soil and fishery resource use in a context of climate change.Participatory approaches and decision support
Development of agent-based simulation tools integrating local knowledge and fostering dialogue between researchers, decision-makers and local populations.
A collaborative scientific dynamic
The South-East Asia Centre is based on a active network of partnerships with universities, research institutes and local organizations. This dynamic encourages :
the co-construction of knowledge,
skills transfer,
training young researchers,
and the production of results with a high scientific and societal impact.
The projects carried out contribute to a better understanding of the complex systems specific to the region, and to the development of forward-looking scenarios useful for public action.
A regional base with international reach
While firmly rooted in local realities, research at the South-East Asia Centre is also rooted in global international scientific networks, to enhance the comparability of studies and the dissemination of results on a global scale
